Big Cakes – Beats, Rhymes, & Revolution

One of the things we here at Conscientization 101 love about hip hop is its ability to convey complex political analysis succinctly. Big Cakes drops the line in this video, “I know we can’t rule tings in Babylon but I still my ting!”, and the message behind that seemingly innocuous statement is worth more than a thousand dissertations. No, we can’t rule things in Babylon—that’s like having a slave on a plantation saying they run the plantation—but like he says we still have to do our “ting”, and if we do our ting together and in an organized fashion…one day we won’t run Babylon, but destroy it.
