In this lecture Kwame Ture recapitulates the aforementioned points noting that the job of the conscious is to make the unconscious, conscious of their unconscious behavior (that’s a mouthful!). In this statement he is asserting that people are subjects and are not to be “won” over to a particular position. Conscious people are only responsible for making people aware, not bringing them to the revolution. Everyone has to make that decision on their own. Nevertheless, consciousness on the part of people involved in struggle is essential for revolutionary change because unconscious action is based on fleeting impulses with no basis in history and the realities of the world today. Unconscious action becomes ephemeral and does not engage in true, effective struggle.
